Christ Church Academy was formed on 1st August 2013.
The Governing Body is the strategic leader of a school and has a vital role to play in making sure that every child gets the best possible education. The purpose of having a Governing Body is to:
- Help the school to set high standards by planning for the school’s future and setting targets for school improvement
- Keep the pressure up on school improvement
- Be a critical friend to the school, offering support and advice. Governors are often said to be ambassadors of the school
- Help the school respond to the needs of parents and the community
- Make the school accountable to the public for what it does
- Work with the school on planning, developing policies and keeping the school under review
- Exercise its responsibilities and powers in partnership with the headteacher and staff
- Not intervene in day to day management of the school unless there are weaknesses in the school, when it has a duty to take action
The Governing Body will therefore be involved in:
- Developing the strategic plan for the school
- Determining the aims, policies and priorities of the school
- Monitoring and evaluating the work of the school
- Ensuring the management of the budget
- Ensuring the health and safety of the pupils
- Acting within the framework of the policies of the Governing Body and legal requirements
- Fostering links with parents and the community
All Academy Boards of Trustees have additional functions and responsibilities.
